đź”— Site investigation: Topographical, Hydrological & Geotechnical surveys for Wind Power Plants

Project presentation

The client is a middle eastern major player in power generation. It has signed an implementation agreement in Uzbekistan for developing, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of wind power plant.

For this scope the client has identified 2 sites and would like to conduct geotechnical, hydrological and topographical surveys to prepare the preliminary geotechnical report for the civil works, basic design and tender construction phase. The first site is located near a lake and the second site is located at proximity of cities.

In this context, the join venture UzAssystem has been appointed to perform site surveys for the two Wind Power Plants (Topographical, Hydrological & Geotechnical ).

Missions

Field and laboratory work are performed in accordance with technical specifications, according to ASTM standards. In this scope, UzAssystem conducted the following activities:

  • Execution of the Geological – Geotechnical Investigations (Geological Mapping, Rotary Cored Boreholes, In-Situ Tests such as: Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Pressuremeter and Double Ring Infiltration Tests, Soil and Rock Sampling, Soil and Rock Mechanics Laboratory Test
  • Execution of the Geophysical Survey (Multiple Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW), Seismic Refraction, Vertical electrical sounding, Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) and Determination of thermal conductivity and soil temperature, reporting)
  • Execution of the Topographical Survey (The topographic and geodetic along with aerial photography works were performed by using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in accordance with Client request)
  • Execution of the Hydrology Survey
    • Site description and investigation of the Project area features
    • Analysis and evaluation of hydro-meteorological data (rainfall / temperature / wind / humidity)
    • Evaluation of regional / local hydrologic data
    • Estimation of hydraulic properties of drainage area and the flow networks
    • Evaluation of water chemistry and discharges and performing hydrologic model
    • Suggestions for protection of river flood / stormwater sustainable drainage systems

Results

  • Uzassystem supplied engineering services in accordance with international codes in an environment where only Russian Codes are applicable.
  • Client acquired accurate and reliable engineering parameters in accordance with international codes.
